Internet

[sixy.ch]I saw yesterday on the SwiNog mailing list that there is a nice website which collects IPv6 enabled websites. Is is swiss centric, but also has international entries in the database.

Please feel free to add any new site to is, if it has some meaningful content.

Today I saw a Post on the IPv6 Ops list that Google is now reachable over IPv6 on a special URL. This is a small but jet significant move in the right direction. Hope more big players will start using IPv6 soon.

IPv6 get’s more and more attention. Many experts say, that it is already to late for a smoth transision to IPv6.

IPv6 and IPv4 - big trouble coming, and soon - Mixed Signals - Rupert Goodwins’s Blog at ZDNet.co.uk Community

Takashi Arano’s Intec NetCore. Details at http://entne.jp/tool/toollist/000101.php

The IPv4 address space gets less and less. IANA projects to be out of allocation by 18-Jun-2011 to give out to Registries. The Registry pool in turn is projectet to be empty by 12-Aug-2012. Thats not a very long time from now. This Page has some interesting graphs on the IPv4 space usage. So you should consider moving on and get IPv6 rolled out in your network and implemented in your software. Many of the Open source tools already support IPv6 with production quality eg. Apache, Power-DNS, Firefox, Thunderbird, just to name a view. On the operating system side it also looks pretty well. Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris, OpenVMS, MacOS X, Windows XP, Windows Vista all support IPv6 out of the box.

The more frustrating part is support for consumer networking devices like ADSL Routers or Firewalls. Only the big players support IPv6 on there higher priced equipment.

For all of you that are luky and already have IPv6 connectivity here is somepthig for you.
It’s not a really new site. I first heared of it on a RIPE meeting some years ago. But with IPv6 getting more and more attraction I thought it is worth a post …

Here it is: http://www.ipv6porn.co.nz/

I found this cool video of a performance at RIPE 55.

Enjoy

I upgraded my MacBook to Leopard a few days ago, and liked to sync my phone now. Unfortunately my Phone is still not Supported and the old hacks with editing the iSync content seams no longer to work.

After googling around a bit, I found out that there is a tool called “iSync Plug-In Maker”. It looks realy simple but I was unable to produce a usable plugin. If someone has some hints, they would be very welcome.

I was not satisfied by the idea that I would no longer be able to sync my Phone, so I searched for similar models on the net, and found a plugin for the Nokia 6300, which is almost the same. I then was able to change the identification string and the display image. Et voila … it works.

Here is the Plugin: iSync Plugin for Nokia 6288

But if anyone knows how to make a working plugin from scratch with “iSync Plug-In Maker” I would realy be interested.

Today I saw a article in the new Newspaper “heute” about google mobile maps while riding in the tram in Zürich. I had to try it out inidiately. Not more than a minute after entering the url www.google.com/gmm into my handy (has to support java) I had the java client on my handy and was ready to try it out. It is realy fast with a normal GPRS connection. Now I no linger have to print out maps when I go to locations I do not know well … great.

Some time ago I saw a project called FON. I’ts a project launched by some spanish guys. The goal of is is that you share your broadband connection via WiFi with other people (called Foneros) and gain the right to use all other FON Hotspots all over the world.

I got my FON enabled Linksys router last week and it works great. I ordered a second one (a WRT54GL) to play with the FONadvanced firmware, which has even more cool features.

To become yourselve a Fonero, you can register here. At the moment they ship the first 3000 FON enabled Wireless Routers with a special discount.

Installation of the Gateway is realy simple. Plug it in (It does DHCP on it’s wan interface by default) and connect to the “FON” SSID with your wireless enabled PC/Laptop/Handheld and open some website. You will get the FON Login. Register your Accesspoint over that page. You will get a mail to confirm your email address. Voila, you’re a Fonero.

It’s a long time, since I’ve posted here the last time. I’ve been busy writing a new Image Gallery tool in PHP with Ajax technology to replace the old one at album.freestone.net. It will soon be in a shape so I can let other people have a look at it.
I’ve used the verry nice and simple to use SAJAX PHP Library. It does all the nifty XMLRPC stuff for you and wraps all php functions into javascript.
