Some time ago I saw a project called FON. I’ts a project launched by some spanish guys. The goal of is is that you share your broadband connection via WiFi with other people (called Foneros) and gain the right to use all other FON Hotspots all over the world.
I got my FON enabled Linksys router last week and it works great. I ordered a second one (a WRT54GL) to play with the FONadvanced firmware, which has even more cool features.
To become yourselve a Fonero, you can register here. At the moment they ship the first 3000 FON enabled Wireless Routers with a special discount.
Installation of the Gateway is realy simple. Plug it in (It does DHCP on it’s wan interface by default) and connect to the “FON” SSID with your wireless enabled PC/Laptop/Handheld and open some website. You will get the FON Login. Register your Accesspoint over that page. You will get a mail to confirm your email address. Voila, you’re a Fonero.
