After a long evaluation and throwing away my doubts, I have now ordered a Film scanner to archive my old negatives and dias. In the final round there where two scanners left, the Minolta Scan Elite 5400 II and the Nikon Coolscan V ED. Unfortunately Canon took their last negative scanner model out of production this autumn. After reading some more reviews and talking to some friends, I decided for the Nikon scanner for its better reputation. Along with the scanner I ordered the Silver fast Ai6.0 IT8 scanner software with calibration target. I’m very eager to see how big the quality difference is when calibrating the scanner.
As things are, Having a new power hungry device which produces 100MB+ images the idea comes up in buying a new computer. In that field I’m not quite clear now which model it should be, or if my Powerbook is still fast enough … One thing is clear, it has to be a Mac, but which one? A Mac mini, a old G5 iMac or e New One. The old can be get for very good prices now, after the release of the new one which almost the same technical data. So we’ll see, I’ll update you here about my decision.
